You found the lake house.
Chill lakeside at this refreshed Sand Lake retreat by Homestead Hideaways. This 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom Anchorage lake house sleeps 8 with kayaks, SUPs, a gym, air hockey, new furniture, mountain views, moose sightings, and room to spread out after a full Alaska day.
Tucked away on the water, yet close to the airport, Kincaid Park, restaurants, downtown Anchorage, and easy day trips. Wake up slow, paddle from the dock, and end the night by the fire. This is the Anchorage lake house people hope they find.
The one where the lake pulls everyone outside before breakfast. Where adults end up on the deck with coffee, wine, or just a quiet minute to take it all in.
Set directly on Sand Lake, this 3,000 square foot home gives your group actual room to breathe. You can land, grab bags, and be lakeside fast. The house feels peaceful and private, but you are still close to the airport, Kincaid Park, restaurants, groceries, downtown Anchorage, and the day trips that make Alaska feel huge.
Good to know: this listing is for the main house only. There is a separate private studio on the lower level that may be rented separately. Your group will have private access to the main house, while some outdoor lakefront areas, including the dock, kayaks, SUPs, and firepit, may be shared if the studio is occupied.

The main living and dining spaces are where this home really earns its keep. Big windows bring in the lake. The dining area gives everyone a place to land. The living spaces let people gather, wander, play, nap, read, or sneak away for a little quiet.
The kitchen is stocked for real meals, not just reheating takeout. Past guests called out the fully supplied kitchen, the generous dining table, and the way the house made family meals feel easy. This is the place for pancakes before a lake day, a big dinner after exploring, and that rare vacation moment where everyone actually sits down together.
And when nobody wants to cook? You are still in Anchorage. Takeout and delivery are easy, which means the trip does not fall apart just because everyone is tired from the day.
For kids, the lake gets its own legend. With a playful nod to Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster, every ripple becomes part of the adventure. For adults, the magic is simpler: quiet mornings on the deck, mountain views in the distance, and enough space for everyone to exhale.
Outside, Sand Lake does most of the work. In summer, take out the kayaks or SUPs, hang on the deck, use the dock, watch the water, and keep an eye out for moose. In winter, the frozen lake and snow covered setting feel like a postcard, while the two gas fireplaces bring the cozy cabin feeling inside.
This is the best of both worlds: a lakefront Alaska stay that feels private, but keeps Anchorage easy.

Quiet, residential West Anchorage setting. Local amenities and small shops are a short drive away on Spenard Road and Minnesota Drive; larger retail and grocery options lie along O’Malley Road and Dimond Boulevard. Outdoor options (trails, local parks and the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail further north) and neighborhood restaurants are within a 10–20 minute drive, giving a suburban-but-accessible Anchorage experience.
Most guests will find a car the most convenient option—drive times are short to nearby grocery and shopping corridors but can increase in winter due to snow. Anchorage People Mover bus service covers West Anchorage with stops on major corridors (Spenard Rd, Minnesota Dr, Dimond Blvd); expect to walk to the nearest route stop and check schedules for frequency. Rideshare/taxi services operate in Anchorage but can be limited late at night or during peak tourist season. For guests with mobility needs, AnchorRIDES paratransit is available through the municipal transit system.
