Day 2: Explore the Pratt Museum and Alaska's Ancient Wonders
Immerse yourself in the local culture and history by visiting the Pratt Museum. This charming museum offers a deep dive into the natural and cultural heritage of the Kachemak Bay region. From historical exhibits to contemporary art, the Pratt Museum provides a rich and engaging experience for all ages. After you're done, don't miss the opportunity to learn about the area's fascinating natural history. Walk across the street from the Pratt, where you will find a curious tree labeled "metasequoia," or more colloquially, a
Dawn Sequoia, the fossil tree from Alaska's ancient warm past. These remarkable remnants stand as a testament to the changing environment, connecting the past to our present.

Day 3: Ice Skating at Beluga Lake / Glacier Skating on Grewingk Lake
When in Homer, you’ve got to try ice skating—it’s not just a winter sport; it’s practically a personality trait here. Whether you’re a triple-axel pro or more of a "graceful faller," Homer has some stellar skating spots that’ll make you fall (hopefully not literally) in love with this icy pastime.
- Quick & Easy: Beluga Lake
If you’re looking for a convenient, no-frills option, Beluga Lake is calling your name. Not only is it super accessible, but it also comes with a side of jaw-dropping mountain views that make you feel like you’re starring in your own Alaska nature documentary. Don’t forget to check out the Kevin Bell Ice Arena, too. They host open skating days, and trust me, skating indoors feels a little more pro and a little less "oops, I fell through a soft spot."

- Go Big or Go Home: Grewingk Glacier Lake
Now, if you're ready to level up your ice-skating game and add a touch of adventure, let’s talk about skating on Grewingk Glacier Lake. This isn’t just skating; it’s
skating with main character energy. You'll need to hop on a water taxi to get there, but once you’re gliding across a glacier lake surrounded by epic scenery, you’ll realize it was totally worth the trek. Hop on a Mako's Water Taxi for transportation and make this wild trek a reality!

⚠️
Heads up! This option is for the hardcore adventurers. If there’s snow on the ground, you’re going to need skis to get in, so late fall or early spring is your sweet spot. But if the conditions are right, you’ll be one of the lucky few to experience a truly unforgettable (and ridiculously Instagram-worthy) moment.
So grab your skates, channel your inner ice queen (or king), and make some icy memories in Homer! ⛸️
Eat: AJ's Steakhouse
Day 4: Cross-Country Skiing at Baycrest
End your Homer trip on a high note (literally, because Baycrest has some killer views) with a cross-country skiing adventure! The trails, lovingly maintained by the
Kachemak Nordic Ski Club, are your ticket to exploring the untouched winter wonderland that is Alaska. Whether you're a seasoned skier who looks like they just stepped off an Olympic podium or a newbie trying to figure out how to not trip over your own skis, these trails have something for everyone.
Hot tip: Swing by the Kachemak Nordic Ski Club website for trail maps and up-to-date conditions so you don’t accidentally find yourself on a black diamond when you’re more of a “green circle” kind of person.
And let me just say, my absolute favorite trail is the
Homestead Loop. I mean, come on, it practically has
our name on it! Coincidence? I think not. Clearly, this trail was destined to be the unofficial mascot of Homestead Hideaways. Go ski it and thank me later. ❄️🎿

It's a beautiful sight and a perfect way to celebrate the new year in the most beautiful place on earth. For more information on the event, check out this
