Step into the Star Base and immerse yourself in the inviting ambiance of a meticulously crafted mid-century modern home! This exceptional residence, a bespoke creation by architect Roger Cotting in 1965, takes the form of a star, epitomizing the mid-century modern aesthetic. Inside, the central focal point is the kitchen, serving as the heart of the home, with multiple wings extending outward. The stunning hardwood floors have been artfully repurposed from a local Fairbanks school gymnasium, bearing witness to their history through the faint traces of basketball court paint.
Upon entry, you’ll be greeted by the warm wood accents and soaring ceilings that define our spacious open living plan. The sunken living room, featuring expansive floor-to-ceiling windows accommodating nine guests, provides an unparalleled vantage point for experiencing the enchanting Aurora Borealis. Relax on our chic West Elm sectional couch while basking in the glow of a double-sided gas fireplace, creating a cozy atmosphere. Set the mood with your favorite tunes on our vintage record player or engage in a delightful game night for an authentic mid-century modern experience!
Take your cosmic adventure outdoors to the covered deck right off of the living room. Whether you’re sipping on a cup of coffee in the morning or toasting under a canopy of stars at night, this space offers the perfect backdrop. If conditions are right, get your camera out to snap some photos of the amazing Aurora Borealis display – our home is far enough out of town to avoid light pollution and really take advantage of the night sky!
Continuing into the hub of the home is the kitchen with seating for 8, as well as a fully equipped kitchen to create home-cooked meals that are out of this world! We also provide glassware for the budding mixologist or wine lover.
Across from the open dining area is a two-level sleeping and lounging area. Step down to a cozy den with a dreamy queen bed with access to your own private deck overlooking the forest. Step up to a spacious lounge sporting a king bed, soaring ceilings with stylish lighting and period artwork. Both spaces have privacy curtains that can be closed at night.
Down the hall from the kitchen you’ll find a brand-new luxury bathroom, with twin sinks and a shower and tub combo with striking gold and black accents.
Behind the kitchen you’ll travel down the hallway to the two spacious bedrooms – the luxurious captain’s sleeping quarters with a king bed, and the first mate’s quarters with a queen bed – both with soft-as-can-be duvets for snuggling in after a long day of exploring all that the last frontier has to offer. In this wing you will also find our second bathroom with a luxurious rain shower and laundry machines available to use during your stay.
Book your stay at Star Base and make your next vacation an otherworldly adventure! Join us in this cosmic journey and create memories that are truly written in the stars!
