Step into the Star Base and immerse yourself in the inviting ambiance of a meticulously crafted mid-century modern home! This exceptional residence, a bespoke creation by architect Roger Cotting in 1965, takes the form of a star, epitomizing the mid-century modern aesthetic. Inside, the central focal point is the kitchen, serving as the heart of the home, with multiple wings extending outward. The stunning hardwood floors have been artfully repurposed from a local Fairbanks school gymnasium, bearing witness to their history through the faint traces of basketball court paint.
The array of dazzling amenities in our backyard is the shining jewel of this property. Our backyard offers an idyllic setting to view the Aurora Borealis. Our three-tiered deck is a haven, featuring a grill, hot tub, and a captivating geodesic dome! Ascend to the top level where a fully equipped gas grill awaits, perfect for cooking up a fresh, locally caught salmon or trout. Descend to the next tier and immerse yourself in a Jacuzzi hot tub with seating for 7. Continue down to find an illuminated geodesic dome, accommodating 5 guests—an ideal spot to relax, dine, or gaze at the aurora away from the elements! Nestled far from the city's glow, our home offers a retreat from light pollution, allowing you to fully embrace the mesmerizing night sky and the enchanting Aurora Borealis!
Upon entry of the home, you'll be greeted by the warm wood accents and soaring ceilings that define our spacious open living plan. The sunken living room, featuring expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, accommodates nine guests. Relax on our chic West Elm sectional couch while basking in the glow and warmth of a double-sided gas fireplace. Set the mood with your favorite tunes on our vintage record player or engage in a delightful game night for an authentic mid-century modern experience!
Continuing inside, the hub of the home is the kitchen with seating for 8, as well as a fully equipped kitchen to create home-cooked meals that are out of this world! We also provide glassware for the budding mixologist or wine lover.
Across from the open dining area is a two-level sleeping and lounging area. Step down to a cozy den with a dreamy queen bed and access to your own private deck overlooking the forest. Step up to a spacious lounge sporting a king bed, soaring ceilings with stylish lighting and period artwork. Both spaces have privacy curtains that can be closed at night.
Down the hall from the kitchen you’ll find a brand-new luxury bathroom, with twin sinks, a shower and tub combo and striking gold and black accents.
Behind the kitchen you’ll travel down the hallway to two spacious bedrooms – the luxurious captain's sleeping quarters with a king bed, and the first mate’s quarters with a queen bed - both with soft-as-can-be duvets for snuggling in after a long day of exploring all that the last frontier has to offer. In this wing you will also find our second bathroom with a luxurious rain shower and laundry machines available to use during your stay.
Continue further down the hallway and step into Star Base Mission Control – an immersive game room inspired by the Space Age era. Featuring a custom Star Trek-themed teleporter console and classic arcade-style joystick games, this retro-futuristic haven offers a gaming experience like no other. Enjoy a selection of popular titles from Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Playstation, and traditional arcade systems. Also tucked within Mission Control is a dedicated area for board games, offering a wide array of options for your entertainment. Need a quiet spot to work? You'll also find a secluded desk space perfect for focused tasks.

The Fairbanks area around Farmers Loop Road offers you an opportunity discover the unique allure of this peaceful corner of the Last Frontier. Surrounded by picturesque landscapes, including the Chena River, this neighborhood offers nature enthusiasts many opportunities such as the nearby Birch Hill Recreation Area with its scenic hiking trails, perfect for exploration in every season. Immerse yourself in the local culture with visits to nearby attractions like the University of Alaska Fairbanks Museum of the North. Just a short drive from downtown Fairbanks, our welcoming community invites you to experience authentic Alaskan living.
We are right off Farmers Loop Road. Our road is maintained year round and regularly plowed in the winter. Our driveway can accommodate up to 4 vehicles.
We have a wrap around driveway - that has egress with Rise Road and our neighbors. Parking is adjacent to the house. We do not have a garage for guest parking, but do have an electric plug for cars in cold weather conditions. The water for our property comes from a well. You may notice some slight discoloration of the water from it’s Iron content when pulling a bath or washing hands. We provide a reverse osmosis (RO) tap in the kitchen for drinking water that renders the water colorless, odorless and tasteless.
